MINISTRY OF NORTHERN DEVEOLOPMENT AND MINES

************************* Ontario Government supports community development project - industrial, commercial and tourism enhancements planned for Wawa

SUDBURY (April 10, 2007) - The McGuinty government is supporting the growth and prosperity of Michipicoten Township by providing additional funding for the community's redevelopment plan, Northern Development and Mines Minister Rick Bartolucci announced today.

"We are on the side of northerners. That is why we are helping communities like Wawa plan for future economic development opportunities and community enhancements," said Bartolucci. "Our investments in these initiatives will enable the community to lay the foundations for a more prosperous future."

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is investing an additional $150,000 to help the community complete the expansion of the Michipicoten Industrial Park, and for the construction of a new sanitary sewer line along Highway 101 (Mission Road).

Last December, the province announced initial funding of $385,000 for the project.

"The McGuinty government understands that a strong northern economy is founded on strong communities," said Bartolucci, who is also chair of the NOHFC. "That's why we are committed to helping communities across the North reach their full potential."

Other McGuinty government initiatives in support of northern communities include:

• Investing almost $9 million in the rehabilitation of Highways 101 and 547 east of Wawa. • Investing $1 million through the Northern Ontario Grow Bonds Loan Program to help expand operations of The Wilderness Group in Wawa.
