NEWS RELEASE

CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY OF ALGOMA

******************************* Children’s Aid Society of Algoma launches new recruitment campaign with a focus on success

The Children’s Aid Society of Algoma will be rolling out a new commercial campaign on November 18, 2010, airing on CTV.

The commercials star local foster parents Ernie and Linda, as well as Ashley, a young woman who has been in the care of the CAS since the age of seven.

The focus of the commercials is to highlight success.

Ernie is a former foster child who has retired from a successful firefighting career and is now fostering with his wife.

Linda has successfully fostered as a single parent for ten years, and Ashley continues to be supported by the CAS, while living independently, attending college and working part-time.

“We want to show that foster parents and foster children could be your neighbor, friend or colleague, and the impact that fostering can have on children,” states Jim Baraniuk, executive director.

Jim Baraniuk will be holding a press conference at the Children’s Aid Society of Algoma, 191 Northern Avenue East on November 17 at 12 p.m., at which time the press will be given a premiere viewing of the commercials, prior to their release.

Ernie, Linda and Ashley will be available for interviews and photo op’s following this exclusive press viewing.

About this child welfare agency

The Children’s Aid Society of Algoma is responsible for the safety and protection of children.

Wherever possible, the Children’s Aid Society works to keep children with their own family.

When this is not possible, children may be brought into the care of the Society.

Foster care is the first choice in these situations because most children’s needs are best met in a family environment.

Foster parents provide a temporary home for children who are in the care of the CAS.

Children may need care for just a few days, a week, several months or possibly years.
