Superior Court Justice Edward Gareau issued a bench warrant for a local man who didn't show up to be sentenced Monday for an armed robbery involving a syringe.

William McDonald stole three bottles of booze from a LCB0 outlet while brandishing the syringe on Feb. 21, 2018.

He pleaded guilty, and was convicted of robbery while armed with an offensive weapon in Feburary of this year.

At the time, Gareau heard the 35-year-old pulled out the syringe when a store employee tried to intervene.

Security cameras caught the incident on video.

On Monday, defence lawyer Eric McCooeye told the judge he hasn't seen his client and the person who was McDonald's surety had revoked his bail on May 8.

At the time, a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Gareau noted the probation office had been unable to contact McDonald to prepare a pre-sentence report.

He agreed to assistant Crown attorney Trent Wilson's request for a bench warrant - an order issued by a judge to arrest an individual for failing to appear in court.
