Housing starts in Sault Ste. Marie last month were way up over March 2009.
Information released today by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) shows six new single-detached starts in 2010, compared with only one a year ago.
Other Northeastern Ontario centres also recorded increases.
Sudbury's 20 starts represent a big gain over two in 2009.
And North Bay's 14 are a significant jump from one new start recorded 12 months earlier.
"Building activity got off to a strong start in the first quarter," says Warren Philip, a Northern Ontario market analyst with CMHC. "Milder-than-normal weather in March undoubtedly contributed to the quick starts."
