Wanted federal offender apprehended in Barrie (update)

A federal offender wanted on a Canada-wide warrant as a result of a breach of their statutory release has been arrested.

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad says Cory Peterson was apprehended in Barrie.

Peterson is serving a four-year sentence for possession of a Schedule I and II substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Earlier this week, the squad sent out a news release saying the 56-year-old was known to frequent Barrie, Midland, North Bay, Sudbury, Blind River and Sault Ste Marie.

“The Provincial R.O.P.E. Squad would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance in this investigation,” it said in an update on Saturday.

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad is asking for your help in catching a federal offender wanted on a Canada-wide warrant as a result of a breach of their statutory release. 

Cory Peterson, 56, is described as an Indigenous man, standing five-foot-seven and weighing 176 pounds. He has thinning brown hair, a greying goatee and brown eyes.

Police say Peterson has several tattoos, including a unicorn and eagle sun on his left arm, a skull and "FTW" on his upper right arm, and a tiger and an eagle head on his right arm. He also has a bear on his chest and an unspecified tattoo on the left side of his neck. 

Peterson is serving a four-year sentence for possession of a Schedule I and II substance for the purpose of trafficking.

He is known to frequent Barrie, Midland, North Bay, Sudbury, Blind River and Sault Ste Marie.
