************************* Algoma University signs international agreement Partnership extends global network to Vietnam SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (August 15, 2011) - Algoma University has signed a partnership agreement with University of Finance - Marketing in Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam.

The agreement will promote the cooperation and exchange of teachers, researchers, and students, as well as the exchange of academic materials, publications, and information. "We are thrilled to have our first partnership with a university in Vietnam," said Algoma University Registrar Dave Marasco. "We welcome the delegation from the University of Finance - Marketing, and are pleased that they have had the chance to spend some time in Sault Ste. Marie to find out what our university and city have to offer." The delegation arrived in Sault Ste. Marie late in the day last Wednesday, and spent the past four days touring the area, including a visit to the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site, attending the Blueberry Festival at the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site, and will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the City, including Mayor Debbie Amaroso, this afternoon. University of Finance - Marketing Rector Dr. Minh Cu Luong, and the former governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Duy Gia Nuygen, were at the university on Monday to tour the campus and meet with university administration.

Dr. Luong and Marasco signed a memorandum of understanding to initiate the collaborative partnership. As a training arm under the Ministry of Finance, the University of Finance - Marketing does scientific research, and offers professional training and management technology in the fields of economy, finance and banking, marketing, business administration, accounting, management information systems and foreign languages.

The university graduates over 5,000 of its 20,000 students each year, with a graduate employment rate of over 80 percent.

The school was established in 1976, and was the first school in southern Vietnam to offer a major in marketing training (since 1991) and also the first institution across the country to offer courses in specialized training in valuation (since 1999).

The university has honorably been awarded with the Labour Medal First, Second and Third Class, the government's Emulation Flags, Certificates of Merit from various ministries and central organizations, and other honours. Algoma University also offers accelerated diploma-to-degree programs in Business Administration in Brampton, and two degrees, including a Bachelor of Social Work, in Timmins.
