SAULT STE. MARIE POLICE SERVICE

************************** SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (May 26) - At approximately 4:30 p.m. on May 25, 2008, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police and the Anishinabek Police Service responded to a collision involving an all terrain vehicle (ATV) along the sand berm near the east city limits adjacent to the new section of Highway 17 East.

The driver of the ATV, 15-year-old Christopher McDonagh of Sault Ste. Marie, was transported to Sault Area Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation has determined that Christopher McDonagh was travelling northbound across the top of gravel, sand berm, when he lost control of the ATV down a steep embankment, the ATV rolled and struck the ground area resulting in the driver being thrown from the vehicle.

At the time of the accident, he was travelling with another male youth that was operating another ATV.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Services traffic investigation services, forensic services, along with the Coroner’s Office are continuing the investigation at this time.
