The U.S. Supreme Court has this morning upheld the legality of the three-drug cocktail widely used in American executions over the past three decades.

With two of nine justices dissenting, the court rejected a challenge from two death row inmates in Kentucky.

The inmates argued that execution by lethal injection would violate their constitutional rights because it hurts.
