UPDATE: Utility pole featured in viral photo has been moved

Although it generated plenty of laughs on social media, the arrow pointing directly to a utility pole was not a construction error but a simple matter of timing

Crisis averted — even though it was never a crisis to begin with.

A utility pole that was previously blocking an exit lane from the new Legion building has been moved about two metres east and is no longer in the way.

A photo of the expanded exit lane leading to Tilley Road was recently posted to social media, with many wondering why an arrow was painted leading directly into a pole.

As SooToday reported, the answer was simple: the site is still an active construction zone and the new pavement was placed and painted before PUC could move the pole, as was always the plan.

A PUC spokesperson confirmed the utility pole move was completed on Jan. 18. The new Legion and apartment building is expected to open in late March or early April.
