Update on Queen St fire

The fire is now extinguished but a pumper remains downtown on fire watch in case it flares up again and an inspector is there trying to determine the cause.

Both the main-floor commercial spaces and the upstairs apartments were unoccupied.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 10:13 p.m. and found smoke coming from an attic space above an apartment in the structure's northwest corner.

The ceiling was removed but the fire quickly spread throughout the attic area and parts of the the roof had to be removed to permit ventilation.

Two minor slip-and-fall injuries were reported to firefghters.

No significant smoke damage was reported to adjacent buildings.
