************************* LSSU board of trustees to finish presidential search

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – After a closed meeting with its Presidential Search Committee today, the Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees announced that it would be taking over the process and finish the search started last summer.

"We met with the Board of Trustees and gave our recommendations. Following a lot of work and a lot of effort, we have handed the ball off to the trustees and asked them to finish the process," said Patrick K. Egan, member of the board and chair of the search committee. "It's now at the trustee level and we have some work to do."

Egan and the committee met in closed session with most members of the board in attendance, including Board Chair W.W. "Frenchy" LaJoie and Jenny Kronk joining Egan on campus, and trustees James Curran, Cindy Dingell, Scot Lindemann and Chuck Schmidt participating through teleconference.

Lindemann is also a member of the search committee.

The meeting was Curran's first since being appointed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm earlier this month.

"Our thanks go out to the members of the search committee for all the work they've done," said LaJoie. "They've worked hard on this over the past several months, and we'll proceed from here," he added, indicating that the board has one more candidate to interview and said it would do so soon.

The committee, during the process, brought a number of candidates with spouses to the campus prior to identifying them as finalist candidates for the Board of Trustees.

The committee then identified three candidates for full campus visits and trustee interviews, but in the final process lost two of the final candidates.

In addition to Egan and Lindemann, the LSSU President Search Committee includes Jim Bourque, LSSU Foundation; Collette Coullard and Barbara Keller, LSSU faculty; Jeff Harris, LSSU Steelworkers; Nancy Neve and Ken Peress, LSSU administrative/professional staff; Mickey Parish, Bay Mills Community College President; Kahler Schuemann, LSSU alumnus and Karizma Vance, LSSU student.
