A SooToday.com article posted on Sunday described a concerned reader's frustrations as she tried to get some help for an injured fox.

Some good came out of that story, as the reader - Susanne Bugyra - noted in an update provided today.

"A young woman and her mother came out last night and we looked for the fox for quite a while," Bugyra reports.

The fox, which has a hurt leg, has a route through her yard and often rests behind a greenhouse.

"We couldn't find him but the young lady left some partridge meat into which she injected medicine and pain killers to ease the animal's suffering," Susanne continued. "This young lady is a volunteer, working with an animal rescue agency run by a volunteer living quite far from here. The medicine is expensive and the volunteers pay for it themselves."

Cindy Ross, shelter manager at the Sault Ste. Marie & District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, advises that "the Humane Society responded [on November 4 and 6] and has not been able to capture the animal. Despite his injuries, he flees from our efforts of capture."

"We have suggested to the complainant that the MNR is better equipped (i.e., tranquilizer gun) to deal with this type of issue. The Humane Society would not refuse to respond to a call. We will do our best to resolve the issue with our available resources and/or find an alternative solution."
