Union opposes Sault airport directing air traffic in London

Starting tomorrow, overnight flights at London, Ontario's airport will be landing with assistance provided from Sault Ste. Marie's airport.

Starting tomorrow, overnight flights at London, Ontario's airport will be landing with assistance provided from Sault Ste. Marie's airport.

Nav Canada, the federal air traffic control agency, says use of a remote radio service from the Sault will replace the presence of a control tower employee in London.

London International Airport handles less than one aircraft an hour at night.

However, the London Free Press is quoting Canadian Auto Workers union officials today as saying that the change will compromise safety.
