Pebbles was a little confused and overwhelmed today as 14 enthusiastic kids went whizzing by him on brand new bicycles.

Alyshia, Tyson and 12 other Sault kids scored shiny new bicycles, helmets and locks courtesy of Bikes for Kids, sponsored by the Soup Kitchen's Children's Program, Sault Cycling Club, Canadian Tire Corp.'s Jump Start Program, Sault Sports Council and some generous individuals.

Another two kids who already had bikes also received helmets and locks, said Soup Kitchen Children's Program Supervisor Sherry Saunders.

"We will be making this an annual event," Saunders said. "So if people want to bring us in their gently used bikes, parts or helmets that haven't been banged up, we'd like to expand it next year."

Also on hand were Sault Police Constable Armando Tempesta and Sergeant Jane Martynuk to register the kid's bikes and help make sure they knew their bike safety rules.

Members of the Sault Cycling Club came out to put the kids through their paces on an obstacle course and adjust their new bikes to a good fit.
