Two occupants escape fire, home destroyed by blaze on Third Line East (8 photos, video)

Passing motorists rescue two women from burning house

A fire completely destroyed a home in the 1000 block of Third Line East Thursday afternoon, with Sault Fire Services still putting out the last of the flames as of 4:30 p.m.

Two men driving by on Third Line East observed the flames and rescued two women from the rear of the home, SooToday learned.

The women were not injured. There was no one else in the home at the time of the blaze.

Sault EMS paramedics were on scene, but said the women did not need medical treatment.

Sault Police diverted traffic at the corners of Third Line East and Birkshire Place, and Third Line East and Old Garden River Road.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, said Damon Ferris, Sault Fire Services platoon chief.

Ferris said the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has not yet been called in to investigate, but said “I expect that they will be.”
