WEST NIPISSING – Two children have been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle after the Ontario Provincial Police made a traffic stop on Highway 17 yesterday at 2:30 a.m.

A 12-year-old and a 13-year-old appear to have been the sole occupants of the vehicle stopped near North Bay, according to police reports.

"Once the vehicle came to a stop, two young people fled into the bush, but were shortly located and arrested by police," the West Nipissing OPP said in a news release.

Police said the youngsters, both from North Bay, were charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Police did not indicate which youth they believe was behind the wheel when the vehicle was stopped.

Both were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in May in North Bay, police said.

The OPP said it will not be releasing the names of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
