Two local churches invite teams to join 3-on-3 hoops tourney

Second annual tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but teams must register by June 12 in order to participate

Bethel Bible Chapel and Bethany Baptist Church will be teaming up to hold their second annual Superior 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Friday June 14 and Saturday June 15.

The tournament is open to non-church members.

Teams of three or four have until Wednesday, June 12 to register for the two-day tournament that will be held in the parking lot of Bethany Baptist Church located at 1074 Second Line West.

The tournament returned in 2023 after a 10-year hiatus.

“Last year we had over 30 teams out and we are looking forward to welcoming lots of players again this year to enjoy some 3-on-3 basketball,” said event coordinator Ryan Lidstone.

Eighteen teams of four were registered as of Monday.

“Right now, the $80 team registration covers our costs for both days, for lunch, prizes and equipment but ultimately we hope to grow this event into a fundraiser for a local cause,” Lidstone said.

Organizers say they want to engage the community in a positive way in a time of drug abuse, theft and shootings.

They anticipate that such a fundraiser will benefit the soup kitchen or one of the local food banks.

Teams of three or four wanting to register for the tournament are asked to:

  • Get a team of three or four players together (coed teams are allowed)
  • Pick a team name
  • Register online
  • Pay the $80 team fee
  • Sign the waiver form

The tournament’s schedule includes:

  • Friday, June 14 - Registration 30 minutes before games begin at 6 p.m. The games continue until 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 15 - Games from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Lunch on Saturday will run from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

The tournament is open to all ages and all skill levels.

Teams can have three or four players and will participate in one of five youth divisions or the adult division.

Accessible washrooms at Bethany Baptist Church will be available for participants and spectators.

Anyone wanting more information can contact Ryan Lidstone by email.
