Two dead in Hwy 69 crash near Sudbury

************************* SUDBURY, ON - Yesterday at 10:30 p.m., officers from the Sudbury OPP detachment responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 69, City of Greater Sudbury (Richard Lake hill).

At this location there are two northbound lanes and two southbound lanes of travel.

Due to weather conditions, only one lane in each direction was clear.

Investigation revealed that a northbound vehicle entered the southbound lane to pass a snowplow and collided head-on with a southbound pickup truck at the crest of the hill.

The driver/ lone occupant of the northbound vehicle, Anthony Henry Gatto, age 64 of Sudbury and the driver/ lone occupant of the pickup truck, Misty Lee Jeanveau, age 23 of Burwash Township (Estaire, Ontario) were pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol was not involved in the collision.

Post mortems are scheduled.

The investigation is continuing.

The highway was closed for 7½ hours while officers conducted the on-scene investigation with the assistance of two OPP technical traffic collision investigators.

At which time, traffic was re-routed through Highway 537 and Highway 17 bypass.
