************************* Avoiding a critter destroys vehicle and causes second crash

MAMAINSE HARBOUR, ON - OPP and the Batchawana Fire and Rescue Department were called to Highway 17 near Mamainse Harbour on Friday night for a crash.

It appears that a car was traveling south on Highway 17 when the driver indicated he tried to avoid a small animal.

The car he was driving started to slide sideways, then rolled over several times.

The car came to rest upright in the middle of the roadway.

The driver was wearing his seatbelt and therefore was not injured.

A second crash occurred when a northbound vehicle slid into the back of other traffic that was stopped for the crash.

No one was injured in that crash.

************************* Car hits tree. Tree wins

GOULAIS RIVER, ON - A Goulais River man escaped injury after his car slammed into a tree on Saturday night.

At about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday a car was traveling west on Highway 552 when the driver claims he hit the shoulder and lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle went off the roadway and slammed into a tree.

The driver was not injured but the car had extensive damage.

Twenty-year-old Jeffery Doan of 146 Grant Road in Goulais River has been charged with failing to drive in marked lane contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

************************* Moose and jeep collide. Jeep loses

GOULAIS RIVER, ON - A Heyden family escaped injury on Saturday night after the Jeep they were driving struck a moose on the highway.

On Saturday 15 at about 8:30 p.m. the Jeep was traveling southbound on Highway 17 between Pine Shores Road and the bottom of the Mile Hill.

The Jeep struck a moose that was in the middle of the roadway.

No one in the Jeep was injured but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
