************************* Deer and transport meet on Highway 17 - deer lost

LAIRD TWP, ON - Officers with Sault Ste. Marie OPP were called to Highway 17 in Laird Township early this morning after a transport struck a deer.

At about 4 a.m. a transport was traveling westbound on Highway 17 near Pumpkin Point Road in Laird Township.

The transport struck a deer that was on the roadway.

The deer eventually died of its injuries and the transport had minor damage.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
