Transport skids off Highway 17 (3 photos)

No other vehicles involved; driver suffered minor injuries

A transport truck, travelling west on the four-laned portion of Highway 17 near Echo Bay, crossed the median and went across the eastbound lanes before settling into a field off the highway Wednesday.

Sault OPP say the transport’s driver was taken by ambulance to Sault Area Hospital with minor injuries.

There were no other vehicles involved.

The highway was not closed, but OPP directed traffic around the transport truck as road crews worked to extricate the vehicle.

The truck was not carrying any hazardous materials, but crews cleaned up what OPP described as dry goods.

The incident was reported at 9:50 a.m.

As of 1 p.m., OPP estimated it would take up to another two hours to remove the vehicle.
