Driver blows four times over legal limit

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES – On May 4, 2016, at 12:40 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint of a tractor trailer travelling westbound on Highway 17 near the Town of Iron Bridge.

At 12:50 p.m., police observed the westbound tractor trailer and initiated a traffic stop on Highway 17, east of Thessalon. 

The officer determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverage and was arrested. 

The driver was transported to Blind River detachment where a breath sample was taken from a qualified breath technician. 

As a result of the breath test, the driver was found to be four times over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.  

The driver was then transported to a local hospital as a precaution and later released into police custody.

Krzysztof Miedzweidzki, 47 years of age, from Mississauga, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving while Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a); and
  • Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 9, 2016.
