************************** Traffic stop results in seizure of cigarettes

BLIND RIVER - On December 14 at 1:30 a.m. police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Causley Street in Blind River.

The officer noticed several large boxes in the back seat of the car.

After a short investigation the officer discovered the boxes contained illegal cigarettes.

The Ministry of Revenue was contacted and the cigarettes were seized.

Police seized 15 cases of illegal cigarettes of various brands.

Charged is 33-year-old Mohammad Aref Taheri of Oshawa.

Taheri is charged under the Tobacco Act with possession of unmarked cigarettes and speeding.

Taheri is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on March 30, 2011.

************************** Stuff-a-cruiser event this Friday

BLIND RIVER - With the holiday season less than two weeks away, the East Algoma OPP in Blind River is holding its first stuff-a-cruiser event on Friday, December 17.

The OPP are working in conjunction with the Blind River Food Bank and are hoping to fill a cruiser with toys, teddy bears and non-perishable food items.

All items will be donated to the Blind River Food Bank for distribution to area families.

Monetary donations will also be accepted.

The cruiser will be at the Valu-Mart parking lot in Blind River from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. waiting to be stuffed.
