Tour de France leader Michael Rasmussen has been sent home at the direction of his Dutch team sponsor Rabobank. A team spokesman says the Danish cyclist was removed from the race for violating team rules.

Tour de France leader Michael Rasmussen has been sent home at the direction of his Dutch team sponsor Rabobank.

A team spokesman says the Danish cyclist was removed from the race for violating team rules.

His expulsion was related to incorrect information given to the team about where Rasmussen was last month.

He missed random drug testing on May 8 and June 28.
