Tony Tagliabracci caught a tongue-lashing from Red Cross Community Kitchens Coordinator Mara Defazio when the Shaw TV producer was found snooping into a savoury pot of chicken vegetable soup.

It happened yesterday at St. Andrew's Church on Wellington Street East, as the Red Cross briefed reporters on its popular Community Kitchens program.

Community kitchens are small groups of people who share their time, skills, ideas and money to stretch their budgets and provide their families with nutritious meals.

The Red Cross holds a dozen Community Kitchens each month, at locations easily accessible by public transportation.

There are four to eight participants in each kitchen.

To become involved as a volunteer or participant, please call Mara Defazio at 759-4547.

Day care is provided.

Red Cross Community Kitchens receive assistance from the United Way and the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board.
