******************* Government tells Tony Martin shelter and homeless money will continue

OTTAWA – Sault MP Tony Martin received assurances from Human Resources Minister Diane Finley today that funding for the Supporting Community Partnership Initiative (SCPI) housing and homeless program will continue.

Finley's commitment was vague on the amount and timeline for the SCPI funding after Martin went to bat for four community projects in Sault Ste. Marie.

The SCPI initiative include Vincent Place men's shelter, Pauline's Place youth shelter, the Community Assistance Trust that assists people with expenses to keep them from becoming homeless and the Mobile Support Worker staff position helping people that are homeless or at risk.

"Without this funding, homelessness will grow in communities like Sault Ste. Marie," Martin said after Finley's appearance at the Human Resources Skills Development Parliament committee.

He vowed to continue fighting for core funding for these projects to ensure their sustainability.
