Tire debris leads to charges for commercial vehicle driver

BLIND RIVER - On Aug. 27, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 east of Blind River.

Shortly after 7 a.m., police observed a westbound commercial motor with its hazard lights on and leaving tire tread debris all over the highway.

A traffic stop was initiated and officers inspected the tractor trailer. The driver’s log book was also not up to date.

As a result, Richard Nichol, 35 years of age, from Haileybury, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Improper Tires-Commercial Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 70(3)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and
  • Fail to Accurately Complete Daily Inspection Report, contrary to section 107(5) of the HTA.
