The world's top-ranked golfer has been idled for the rest of the PGA season.

Only two day after winning his third U.S. Open, Tiger Woods has announced that he will undergo reconstructive surgery to his ACL.

He also needs time to repair a double stress fracture in his left leg.

"I know much was made of my knee throughout the last week, and it was important to me that I disclose my condition publicly at an appropriate time," Woods says in a statement on his website. "I wanted to be very respectful of the USGA and their incredibly hard work, and make sure the focus was on the U.S. Open. Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is to listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery, and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee."

For more on this breaking story, please continue to monitor Woods' website and your preferred online or broadcast sources for sports information.
