The Florida crash in which golf icon Tiger Woods sustained facial injuries when his Cadillac Escalade crashed into his neighbour's tree and a fire hydrant, is turning out to be more complicated than orginally thought.

The web site TMZ.com is reporting that Woods' injuries may have been inflicted by his wife, Elin Nordegren, after an argument in which the the sports celebrity was confronted about reports he's been seeing another woman.

Some media outlets have reported that Nordegren was in the house about 2:30 a.m. when she heard the crash, ran outside, smashed a back window on the Escalade and pulled an unconscious Tiger Woods from his vehicle.

But TMZ is saying the golfer has told a friend that his wife went "ballistic at around 2 a.m. yesterday and scratched his face up," then attacked his vehicle with a golf club.

Woods was treated and released on Friday.

When police returned to ask more questions, his wife told them he was resting and asked them to come back Saturday for a statement.

Today, media outlets are reporting that police have been told that neither Woods nor his wife will be available for questioning until Sunday.

Police have confirmed that there are inconsistencies in the couple's statements that they would like to clear up.

TMZ says there was no blood on the steering wheel of the Escalade, as was previously reported, suggesting the injuries may have been sustained outside the vehicle.

Woods was linked in a recent National Enquirer report to a woman named Rachel Uchitel.
