Thunderstorms 'racing' toward Whitefish Bay

*********************** Severe thunderstorm watch for Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island - Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay - Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake - Blind River - Thessalon - Manitoulin Island - Espanola - Killarney continued

Thunderstorms with intense lightning and torrential downpours racing east across Lake Superior may reach the district later this morning.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.

Monitor weather conditions. Listen for updated statements.

If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.

Another cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms has moved out over eastern Lake Superior and is racing east towards Whitefish Bay and the Sault Ste Marie area early this morning.

These thunderstorms may reach regions near Manitoulin Island later this morning as the warm front moves in.

Intense lightning and torrential downpours are the main threats.

There is also a risk of damaging wind gusts and hail.

Rainfall amounts may locally exceed 50 mm in areas that receive several thunderstorms in a row.

Travellers should exercise extreme caution as conditions may deteriorate quite suddenly with torrential downpours and very strong winds as the thunderstorms arrive.
