Thumbs up for Edwin Boyd

The long awaited and highly anticipated Sault premiere of Edwin Boyd: Citizen Gangster began today with a personal video message from South Africa by director Nathan Morlando and producer Allison Black.

The long awaited and highly anticipated Sault premiere of Edwin Boyd: Citizen Gangster began today with a personal video message from South Africa by director Nathan Morlando and producer Allison Black.

The pair thanked the city, area businesses, and local cast and crew for their hospitality, dedication, and hard work on the film which shot here just over a year ago.

Unlike the local premiere of Ecstasy, which took place at the Grand Theatre on February 4, there was no cheering or applause when a Sault landmark or background actor appeared on screen.

The silence wasn't because the audience didn't enjoy the film.

It's because the story of Edwin Alonzo Boyd as presented by Morlando was so darn riveting.

SooToday.com would have loved the film even if the Sault wasn't a primary shooting location.

Although today's screening was officially sold out, rush tickets were available at the door.

The Shadows of the Mind Film Festival will show Edwin Boyd again at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 4 at Galaxy Cinemas in the Station Mall.

The Festival will also screen Marwencol at 1 p.m., La vérité at 3 p.m., and A Dangerous Method at 7 p.m.

De-Railed: The National Dream, a documentary from Sault filmmaker Dan Nystedt, will screen at 5 p.m. at the Grand Theatre.
