************************* Round table sets stage for community stability and growth

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - Mayor Debbie Amaroso hosted a round table meeting with Sault Ste. Marie MP Bryan Hayes and MPP David Orazietti at the Civic Centre earlier today.

Initiated by Mayor Amaroso, the goal of the meeting was to establish a communication protocol and encourage ongoing dialogue relating to a broad range of community issues.

"It is imperative that all three elected officials work together for the betterment of the Sault Ste. Marie community. The meeting agenda encompasses initiatives that require support from all levels of government. It is an exciting time for representatives to engage in discussions to help move our community forward," said Mayor Amaroso. Agenda topics included the Northern Ontario Growth Plan and the deep harbour port in addition to other projects that will impact Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding areas.

“As elected officials, we are all cognizant of the challenges facing our community. In this time of global economic instability, it is more important now than ever before that all elected officials and community leaders work together to identify and prioritize our concerns and opportunities. There will be tremendous competition for limited funding and these round table discussions provide a forum for ongoing planning that will enable us to be prepared to work in unity as funding opportunities become available and as Canada and Ontario work towards balancing their budgets,” remarked Sault Ste. Marie MP Bryan Hayes.

"Debbie, Bryan and I, are working together to ensure we continue to make progress on initiatives and projects, at each level of government, that will create more job opportunities and improve our quality of life,” said David Orazietti, MPP for Sault Ste. Marie. “We are jointly committed to ensuring that we build on the success we have worked hard to deliver in recent years with a focussed strategy on matters of collective interest that will bring the best results possible for Sault residents.”

Round table discussions involving various stakeholders and nearby communities will continue bi-monthly during the term of City Council.
