A new French Catholic school board superintendent will oversee three Sault schools - Cardinal-Léger, Notre-Dame-des-Écoles and Notre-Dame-des-Grands-Lacs - as well as other District of Algoma schools in Dubreuilville, Elliot Lake, Hornepayne, Spanish and Wawa.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) issued the following news release today:

************************* Monique Chrétien to become CSCNO superintendent of education

Mr. Marcel Montpellier, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) president, and CSCNO Director of Education Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau proudly announce the nomination of Mrs. Monique Chrétien to the position of Superintendent of Education.

Mrs. Chrétien [shown] possesses a rich and varied experience in teaching and school administration at the elementary and secondary levels in Northeastern Ontario and Northwestern Québec.

Monique Chrétien is a familiar figure at the CSCNO, having already been principal of École Georges Vanier in Elliot Lake and taught at Collège Notre-Dame in Sudbury.

Over the years, Mrs. Chrétien worked in schools managed by the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario, Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord and Commission scolaire Harricana schools.

She also acquired a wealth of expertise at the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario, where she held for the last two years the position of assistance director of language planning policy and learning services.

A graduate of Laurentian University, Monique Chrétien also holds a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Ottawa and an Ontario academic supervisory officer’s certificate.

In her role as superintendent, Monique Chrétien will guide schools under her supervision and continue to advance the work that has already begun in fostering the development of professional learning communities.

She will also be responsible for assuring that result targets are met within the strategic CSCNO framework.

“We are heartened at Mrs. Chrétien’s return to the CSCNO, given her links and affinities with our schools,” declared CSCNO president Marcel Montpellier. “With over 20 years of experience in the field of education, Monique will be able to use her leadership position to help the conseil to continue to offer a French Catholic education whose high quality and dynamism is widely recognized.”

Director of Education Lyse-Anne Papineau is convinced that the new superintendent will be able to move many important projects forward.

“In addition to her knowledge of the reality of our schools and communities, Monique’s teaching and management experience will be of great value. Her understanding of a wide range of Ontario Ministry of Education dossiers will allow her to further our students’ success in the areas of teaching and cultural identity.”

Monique Chrétien will take up her new superintendent of education position by the end of February.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic educational program that is recognized for its excellence.

With more than 7,400 students in 28 elementary and 10 secondary schools, the CSCNO offers a positive learning environment from early childhood to adult education.
