Three hurt in Hwy 17 crash

************************* THESSALON, ON – On Tuesday June 1 shortly after 3 p.m. the East Algoma OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 east of Thessalon near Station Road.

A passenger truck that was travelling westbound attempted to pass a westbound transport in the passing lane.

As the transport merged into the left lane the passenger truck then proceeded to the right lane where the passing lane came to an end.

The driver of the passenger truck travelled on the westbound shoulder and while attempting to bring the truck back onto the highway lost control, hitting the eastbound shoulder and rolled.

There was no contact between the passenger truck and the transport.

There were three people in the passenger truck that were transported to Thessalon Hospital and transferred to the Sault Area Hospital.

The two passengers received serious injuries and the driver received minor injuries.

All three were from New Brunswick.

The driver of the transport from Manitoba did not receive any injuries.

There was no damage to the transport.

The passenger truck is demolished.

The weather was clear and dry at the time of the collision.

The highway remained closed for approximately one hour and then was reopened to one lane.

Members of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Team are on the scene.

The collision is still under investigation.

Charges are pending.
