Real life superhero, Jamie McDonald, will be running through Sault Ste. Marie on his cross-Canada fundraising adventure

Event: Join Jamie for a meet-and-greet on Monday, August 19 at 2 p.m. at the YMCA and to hear him speak at 6 p.m. at the YMCA – you don’t want to miss this!

Real life Forest Gump and Superhero, Jamie McDonald, will be running through Sault Ste. Marie this weekend on his cross-Canada fundraising adventure.

Jamie, who hails from Gloucester, England started his journey in March 2013 in St. John’s Newfoundland, and is running across Canada to raise money for children’s charities - SickKids Hospital in Toronto, and the Pied Piper Appeal/Great Ormond Street Hospital in the UK. 

He plans to complete his journey by December 18, 2013 in British Columbia.

Jamie is running coast-to-coast without a support crew, and has been running the equivalent of one marathon a day (42.2 km). 

Jamie is updating his Twitter, Facebook and web page along the way and has also been keeping a video diary of his trip. 

He has posted 13 amazing videos of his journey on his web page that can also be accessed through YouTube.

To date, he has run over 3,000 km of his 7,400 km journey.

Jamie will arrive in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday, August 19. 

Local runners from the Sault Stryders Running Club will greet Jaime at 1 p.m. at the Husky on Trunk Road. 

The group will make their way to the YMCA where there will be a public meet-and-greet at 2 p.m. 

Later that evening, at 6 p.m., Jaime will be delivering a motivational message about his fundraising adventure in the Auditorium at the YMCA, located at 235 McNabb Street. 

Early morning risers can also join Jamie for a run as he leaves town at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20 at The Water Tower Inn, 360 Great Northern Road.

Jamie, who has become somewhat of an adventurer, cycled 14,000 miles from Bangkok to his home town Gloucester, England in 2012. 

Two days after finishing this journey, he decided to attempt to break the world static cycling record, which stood at 224 hours and 24 minutes. 

Jamie pedalled for 265 hours (more than 11 days) breaking the record, raising money from both challenges for the Pied Piper appeal.
