Statistics Canada is reporting this morning that life expectancy at birth in Canada has reached 80.7 years. That's based on the three-year period 2005 to 2007, up from the average life expectancy of 80.5 between 2004 and 2006. And, up from 78.

Statistics Canada is reporting this morning that life expectancy at birth in Canada has reached 80.7 years.

That's based on the three-year period 2005 to 2007, up from the average life expectancy of 80.5 between 2004 and 2006.

And, up from 78.4 years a decade earlier, between 1995 and 1997.

Over the past decade, the largest gains were among men, whose life expectancy at birth rose by 2.9 years to 78.3 in 2005-2007.

Among women, it rose by 1.8 years to 83 years.
