Program Read celebrates 25th anniversary with Open House

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON (February 21, 2012) – Program Read is celebrating 25 years of helping adults in our community improve their literacy skills and achieve their independence.

Program Read helps adults build confidence and independence by developing math, computer, reading and writing skills.

Students can determine skills needed after  goal assessment to help create their own learning path.

Small classes, one-to-one tutoring, and self-paced learning offer students plenty of assistance and support to achieve success.

“Coming to Program Read has really improved my reading, writing and math,” student Karen confides, “and it’s helped me be less nervous on job interviews. I now have a job that is more to my liking.”

To celebrate 25 years of literacy success, Program Read will be hosting a community Open House on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 12 noon  to 4 p.m.

The public is invited to 169 Spring Street to join the celebration with refreshments and enter the draw on a special basket.

Program Read is also offering a new class for people with employment goals, focusing on essential skills training in the workplace.

“Individuals will be taught by qualified instructors who will work with the learner to develop their own learning plan. We also offer one-to-one tutoring by trained volunteers,” Lucille Carson, Program Read’s coordinator explains, “and provide assistance by referring learners to other services such as employment agencies.”

For more information regarding the free and confidential class, programs and services offered at Program Read, or how you can become a volunteer, please contact Lucille at 705-946-3953.
