Wayne Groszko is cycling across Canada for Huntington's Disease.

And he's taking a guest room with him.

Groszko, an oceanographer from Calgary, is riding a tandem bicycle so he'll have room to bring a passenger if anyone wants to tag along for a while.

"I've got pretty much everything," he says. "A spare helmet, room in the tent and a second seat on the bike."

"The only thing anyone would have to bring is a sleeping bag and some food."

Groszko said he really enjoys sharing the trip with people he's met along the way.

He said he's had hitchhikers, people who were going to take the bus, friends and just people who call him up along the way and say they want to come along with him for parts of his trip.

Groszko's friend Ed came along with a dog for six kilometres in New Brunswick.

"The little black dog, Rose, just sat on top the trailer looking around," he said.

And Groszko has crossed paths with a number of cyclists on his journey as well.

"Something particularly exciting happened three days ago," said Groszko.

He met up with three friends riding across the country from west to wast, while he was riding from east to west, he said.

"We met on the highway and camped together in Serpent River," he said. "We'd each ridden thousands of kilometres and here we come to this one point."

They enjoyed a swim, some food and quality story-swapping about what could be ahead on the road and what had passed before continuing on in opposite directions.

Groszko's friends even told him where to find a nice comfy campsite they used the night before.

He said his inspiration for this trip was his mother, who's been living with Huntington's for a number of years.

Groszko left St. John's Newfoundland on May 28 and hopes to be in Calgary in time for his mother's birthday on August 27.

He will then continue on to Victoria B.C. to finish the trip.
