The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has released the following statement about a violent incident that occurred last night in the Civic Centre parking lot, shortly after last night's City Council meeting:

Police advise that the 19-year-old accused of assault is James Coty McLeod of 120 Pim Street.

************************* A 19-year-old male will appear in bail court this morning charged with assault.

It is alleged this accused, along with two 17-year-old males, assaulted a 23-year-old male in the parking lot of 99 Foster Drive last night at approximately 9:30 p.m.

It is alleged this accused and one of the 17-year-old accused punched the victim in the head numerous times.

The other 17-year-old male accused is alleged to have punched the victim as well as striking the victim in the back of the head several times with a skateboard, causing a cut to the victim's head.

The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

One of the 17-year-old males will appear in court this morning charged with assault and assault with a weapon.

The other 17-year-old was charged with assault and will appear in court on June 16.
