The Sault Ste. Marie Airport saw a six consecutive month of record-breaking passenger levels in October.

A total of 20,040 passenger flew into and out of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport on Air Canada Express, Bearskin Airlines, and Porter Airlines, making it the busiest October to date. The previous October record was set last year at 19,101.

October also established a new monthly record for passengers in a month, this exceeds the previous record set in August of 2016 at 19,592. The August record beat out the previous record that had stood since 19,042 passengers used the airport in October 1998.

The past 12 months of operation have seen 209,559 passengers flow through the Sault Ste. Marie Airport. Ten of the past twelve months have set records for that month in a year.

“The record passenger levels have been great to see,” said Terry Bos, President and CEO of the SSMADC.

“It is hoped that these levels will continue through the winter southern destination season, this will be assisted by the addition of a new Sunwing destination for this winter. This winter people have the opportunity to go to either Punta Cana or Jamaica direct from Sault Ste. Marie Airport with Sunwing Airlines.”
