OPP NEW RELEASES

************************** Two arrested for night time thefts from vehicles

ELLIOT LAKE - On the 14th of November members of the East Algoma OPP and the East Algoma crime unit executed a search warrant at an apartment at 147 Misissauga Avenue in relation to stolen property from numerous night time thefts from vehicles.

Police located several items and a small marijuana grow operation.

Charged with the following is Jesse Grant (19) of Elliot Lake:

- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x3)

- Theft under $5,000 (x2)

- Production of marijuana

- Possession of marijuana

- Possession of cocaine

- Breach of probation (x2)

Also charged with the following is a 17-year-old male of Elliot Lake:

- Theft under $5,000 (x3)

Grant remains in custody and the 17-year-old youth is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on January 4, 2011.

The name of youth will not be released under the Jurisdiction of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

************************** Two chain saws taken during break-and-enter

ELLIOT LAKE - Police are currently requesting the assistance of the public in solving a break enter and theft on Denison Road in Elliot Lake.

Sometime between 6:30 p.m. November 5 and 10:15 a.m. November 6 unknown person(s) entered a garage via a window and missing are two yellow chain saws.

Investigation continuing.

Anyone with information regarding the above break enter and theft is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Any information that leads to the arrests or identity of persons responsible can lead to a cash reward.

************************** Male youth arrested regarding beer store break-and-enter

ELLIOT LAKE - The East Algoma OPP has arrested and charged one male youth regarding a break enter and theft at the Beer Store in Elliot Lake.

November 12 at 11:05 p.m. police responded to call on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake.

On scene police noted a section of glass door to be smashed and some items were missing.

Officers patrolled the area and located most of the missing items.

November 16, through investigation, police located and arrested the subject.

Charged with the following is a 14-year-old male of Elliot Lake:

- Break-and-enter

- Failure to comply (x2)

The youth remains in custody.

The name of the youth will not be released under the jurisdiction of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

************************** Stolen vehicle recovered in Barrie

ELLIOT LAKE - November 8 police received a call regarding a possible stolen vehicle.

On scene police learned that the car was last seen on November 7 at approximately 5:30 p.m. parked in an underground parking lot on Washington Crescent in Elliot Lake.

The next morning at 10 a.m. the vehicle was missing.

Through investigation, police learned that the 1988 Blue Pontiac 6000 had been located in the Barrie area.

Investigation continuing.

************************** Shoplifting is a crime

ELLIOT LAKE - Monday, November 15 at approximately 3:20 p.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP received a call to attend a local grocery store regarding a possible theft.

On scene police learned that the subject had allegedly taken an item from the store without paying.

Charged is Joanne Belanger-Jalbert (37) of Elliot Lake.

Belanger-Jalbert is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on January 4, 2011.
