Students of Sault College’s Public Relations and Event Management (PEM) program hosted The Halloween House Build at Mill Market Wednesday afternoon.
“We’re putting this on as a fundraiser for the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie and District, 100 per cent of the proceeds raised will go toward their new five-year plan to raise $6,250,000,” explained Logan Kennedy of the Sault College PEM program.
But it wasn’t a case of building one large scale, scary Halloween house within Mill Market’s walls.
Eight four-member teams from the community paid $200 each to enter the event, each team using its creative skills to build small gingerbread houses with a Halloween theme.
“We took gingerbread houses and gave it a Halloween theme, everyone loves building them at Christmas so we thought we would orient it toward another occasion as well,” Kennedy said.
Prizes for best Halloween House and best Halloween costumes, worn by each team’s members, were donated by local media outlets and other businesses.
Personalities from local media outlets, including Village Media, were scheduled to serve as judges for the event.
Sault College’s PEM program has organized fall fundraiser events for the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie and District for each of the last five years.
SooToday will soon be adding a video presentation of Wednesday’s Halloween House Build.
