The Sault loves love. Or at least lust

A 2015 study conducted by the online dating service Elite Singles sought to determine which Canadian city’s single population had the highest libido. The following story is a bit racy and may contain content not appropriate for all audiences.

A 2015 study conducted by the online dating service Elite Singles sought to determine which Canadian city’s single population had the highest libido.

The survey sampled 40,000 singles from across the country, asking them to what extent they agreed to the statement: “I have a strong desire for sex.”

Some of the results were surprising.

At the bottom of the scale, the five least libido-centric cities were all in the province of Quebec - Matane, Montmagny, Joliette, Montreal, and Shawinigan.

Coming in at number one on the lust list was Vancouver.

Sault Ste. Marie was close behind at number two.

SooToday reached out to two adult shop employees to find out more about what makes the Sault’s high libido tick.

Barb Carter, senior staff member at The Extasy Shop, and Gaelyn Coleman, manager of Amore, both told us the results of the Elite Singles survey came as no surprise.

While Carter said The Extasy Shop sees more single visitors than couples, those singles are an even split of males and females.

Where singles have a tendency to browse, she said couples usually come to the shop looking for something specific.

Vibrators are the store’s biggest selling item.

Coleman told us Amore’s clientele consists of equal parts singles and couples, and this Valentine’s Day weekend she saw a spike in lingerie and movie sales.

However, Amore’s most popular items are herbal supplements that enhance libido and stamina, she said.

“I sell those every single day,” she said. “But they’re followed close by some of the toys like non-vibrating dildos.”

Both shops understand the need to feel comfortable, especially for someone inexperienced with sex toys.

The Extasy Shop has a newbie-specific section, Carter told us, stocked with a variety of affordable, quiet, and un-intimidating items to choose from.

Coleman and the staff at Amore are very open and stress that the desire for sex play is normal.

“You deserve to take care of yourself,” she said.

Visit The Extasy Shop at 268 Bruce Street or Amore located at 245 Second Line West to find out what all the buzz is about.
