NEWS RELEASE

SAULT AREA HOSPITAL

****************************
In the fall of 2013, the Algoma District Cancer Program (ADCP) championed a pilot Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) which has proven to be a resounding success.

Four patients have served in the role of advisors and have been active participants in providing input into decisions related both to the ADCP and other areas of the hospital.

Building on this success, Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is pleased to announce the creation of a corporate Patient and Family Advisory Council.

The SAH Council will contribute to the hospital’s ability to achieve the highest quality patient outcomes by listening to the voice of the patient, addressing the patient experience and implementing positive changes and process improvements throughout the organization.

By working together, better health care outcomes, wiser allocations of resources and greater patient satisfaction will be achieved.

At the heart is the belief that health care staff and the patient are working as partners in care.

To underscore the importance of, and commitment to, this engagement initiative, the Council will include the entire SAH Executive Team (Chief Operating Officer; Transformation and Chief Human Resource Officer; Chief Financial Officer; and Chief of Staff and Medical Affairs) along with five to six patient/family advisors.

One advisor will be selected to co-chair the Council along with Ron Gagnon, SAH President and CEO.

“We recognize the expertise of patients in helping to better address their own care needs,” says Gagnon. “As an organization, we are committed to a patient-centred approach to health care delivery, and who better than the patient and their loved ones to help shape our decisions?”

SAH is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on the SAH Patient and Family Advisory Council.

Candidates should have had recent interaction with the hospital (ideally within the past year) as either an inpatient, outpatient or as a family member or loved one of a patient.

We are looking for people who are willing to be open, honest and committed to providing meaningful and thoughtful input to improving the patient experience at SAH.

To find out more about the SAH Patient and Family Advisory Council, and/or to apply, please visit www.sah.on.ca, or contact Laura Tenhagen at (705)759-3434, ext. 6908 or via email at [email protected].

Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on September 1, 2014.
