NEWS RELEASE
SAULT STE. MARIE REGION CONSERVATION AUTHORITY
*************************
The Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority (SSMRCA) and Hiawatha Highlands (a division of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club) are pleased to announce that cross-country skiing on the Pinder Trail System will be extended by two weeks until April 30 this year.

The official ski season ends April 15 each year, however winter weather conditions have allowed an extension to the customary deadline. The Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club lease land in the Hiawatha Highlands Conservation Area from the SSMRCA from November 15 to April 15 of each year.

This land use agreement allows exclusive use of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Under the conditions of the agreement this year, walking or other activities will not be allowed on the Pinder Trail System until May 1.

In a year of never-ending winter, we continue to receive below normal temperatures and anticipate continued snow accumulation. An extended ski season is a rare opportunity.

For avid skiers, the extended season is a chance for a few more kilometers through the beautiful forested landscape relishing in the winter sport. For novice skiers it’s a chance to try a new winter activity before the rain filled days of springtime find us.

For inquiries regarding trail conditions, ski passes and equipment rentals please contact the Hiawatha Highlands at 705-256-7258 or visit hiawathahighlands.com.
