Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (H-SCDSB) trustees and administrators said thank you, goodbye and all the best to outgoing student trustee Hope Bye of St. Mary’s College at their regular board meeting Wednesday.

Bye served as H-SCDSB student trustee with fellow St. Mary’s College student Kieran Desjardins throughout the 2016-2017 school year, participating in board meetings and leading several activities at St. Mary’s.

Bye will be graduating from high school this month and heading off to university in the fall.

Desjardins will be heading into Grade 12 at St. Mary’s in September as the board’s first two-year student trustee.

Desjardins will be joined by new trustee Mia Burzese.

“I’ve been a trustee a long time, but I was never more impressed with the work you and Kieran did this year,” said John Caputo, H-SCDSB chair, speaking to Bye at Wednesday’s meeting.

Bye and Desjardins played a key leadership role within the student body at the new St. Mary's College.

“I know you’re a very ambitious young lady and I wish you the best in the future. Thank you so much for being a part of our board,” Caputo said.

“Having you as student trustees allows us to see the school through your eyes.”

“I’m speechless. I had the best year, you guys have given me so many opportunities and I cannot thank you enough. I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity to work with you all,” said Bye, who added she would be sure to come back and visit.
