Terry Sheehan (shown) has withdrawn his bid for re-election to the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, and is running instead for a Ward 2 seat on City Council.

Sheehan, an occasional SooToday.com columnist, filed his Council nomination papers this afternoon at the Civic Centre.

Sheehan is currently employed as a training consultant with the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities, Apprenticeship Branch.

He's a former general manager of Enterprise Centre Sault Ste. Marie who was seconded 13 months ago to the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, where his duties included overseeing all Northern Ontario Enterprise Centres.

In Ward Two, Sheehan will run against incumbent Jody Curran, Mike O'Shea, John Wieczor and Susan Milne.

The deadline for nominations for both the school board and City Council elections is 5 p.m. Friday.

**************************************************************** The following is a letter sent by Sheehan to residents of Ward 2:

Dear Ward 2 Resident,

I have put my name forward to represent the residents of Ward 2 and the City as your Councilor at City Hall and seek your support.

Since 1998 I have been a trustee with the Huron Superior School Board working with parents from across the City and Ward 2 to improve the quality of education that is being delivered to our children.

My wife, Lisa (Bradford) and I were both born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie.

Since graduating from Lake Superior State University in Political Science, I have been employed in the areas of business and economic development.

This has given to me experience in working with all three levels of government, private business, and labor in seeking solutions to diversify and grow our economy.

Over the past few years our city has faced a number of problems.

A decline in population through the outward migration of youth and young families; decreased services in Health Care, City Services, and Public Safety.

For too long we have been talking about the problems, it is time to talk solutions. It is time for change. With a positive, proactive attitude together we can move our city forward. Growth is just a vote away. Vote Terry Sheehan as your Ward 2 representative at City Hall and together we will grow the City. Sincerely, Terry Sheehan For City Council Ward 2
