United Steelworkers Local 8748 has called a meeting for its striking members employed by Tenaris Algoma Tubes.

The meeting will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and and will offer members a chance to talk about issues with their bargaining team.

The union has been on strike since early Thursday morning.

As reported earlier by SooToday.com, employees at the Sault Ste. Marie tube mill voted to reject a tentative agreement that their bargaining team was recommending be accepted.

City Police attended at the scene around 6:30 a.m. and there are conflicting versions of what transpired then.

Some strikers have called SooToday.com, claiming that two picketers were struck by a truck entering the propertey.

City police advise, on the other hand, that two picketers were sent home after inappropriate behaviour.

Union officials remain tight-lipped about the incident.

This photo shows police talking about safety later that day with bargaining team spokesperson Eugene Caputo.
