Tenant assaulted after trying to stop elevator attack

************************* Assault

Yesterday evening, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 42-year-old male for assault.

Yesterday evening the accused male and his ex-common-law girlfriend were in his apartment when an argument took place.

It is alleged that at that time the accused became physical and threw the victim to the floor and then banged her head off the floor several times.

The victim left the apartment and was followed out to the elevator at which time it is alleged that the accused again assaulted the victim by punching her.

Two tenants in the building heard the assault and attempted to assist the victim.

It is alleged that the accused then grabbed and punched one of the males.

The accused is charged with two counts of assault.

Both victims suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

************************* Fail to appear

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 31-year-old male on several warrants.

It is alleged that the accused male failed to appear for court on February 28.

The accused had been arrested on October 19, 2010 for theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

Jason Solomon, age 31, of 342 Albert Street East Apartment 6 is charged with one count of failing to appear for court, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

************************* Fail to appear

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested an 18-year-old male on a warrant.

It is alleged that the accused failed to appear for court on March 7.

Ryan Catling, age 18, of 113 Pozzebon Street, is charged with one count of failing to appear for court.

Mr. Catling is to appear in court on April 19 at 9:30 a.m.

************************ Mischief

- A residence in the 100 block of Grace Street had several windows broken.

- A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Industrial Park Crescent had its tires slashed.

- A window was broken at a business in the 600 block of Queen Street East.

************************ Theft

- Electronic parts were stolen from a residence in the 500 block of Queen Street West.

- A cell phone was stolen from an apartment in the 800 block of Queen Street East.
