Chris Belsito, communications spokesperson with Tenaris Algoma Tubes, confirmed today the "temporary reduction of 83 employees" effective January 14, 2013.

The company is adjusting the shifts to align with production, he told SooToday.com, and the layoffs are due to reduced market activity.

"The market is cyclical and production is determined by product demand," he told us, adding that the company has not lost any customers.

These staff reductions were implemented in accordance with the union's collective agreement, and all affected employees will retain their job recall rights, Belsito said.
